Customs Administration of the Netherlands has been at the top of international logistics and border handling rankings for years. We are seen as a modern and innovative organisation with a smart approach. In short: as one of the best customs services in the world. Our goal is to keep it that way.
Changes with impact
Remaining one of the best customs services means responding quickly to all kinds of changes that affect our work. For example, more and more items are crossing borders, partly due to Brexit and more online purchases. The European Union is making more and more demands on our work. The rules are always changing: companies have to file declarations more often, earlier and more extensively. That means we have to process more declarations. We are also becoming increasingly involved in the fight against subversive crime.
Long-term strategic plan
Our Long-term Strategic Plan (in Dutch) sets out what we need to do to achieve our ambition. We aim to work more data-driven to better detect high-risk items with data about goods, companies and logistics chains. That is how we check more and more smartly. That means fewer and less intrusive checks on companies that have proven trustworthy. We also set out to serve residents and businesses better by improving online services. In everything we do, it is important to prevent corruption. That is why we work continuously on the issue of integrity.
